OAKLAND – Hip-hop fans were in for a treat this past Wednesday when they got to see one of the biggest producer and rapper duos live. Future and Metro Boomin are coming off the heat of releasing the two album series WE DON’T TRUST YOU and WE STILL DON’T TRUST YOU, which was what the tour’s theme originated from. The first album became one of the soundtracks of the year, exploding in virality and success, which included hits like “Type Shit," “Magic Don Juan (Cinderalla)," and most importantly, the infamous “Like That," which features Kendrick Lamar, and started a whole saga of rap beef.

The night started with Metro Boomin warming up the crowd and playing a catalog of self-produced hits that he has done. It’s hard to encapsulate Metro Boomin’s impact on hip-hop, but his production is a main factor in a lot of rappers' success. Whether it’s producing for the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse soundtrack or his own album, which features many artists like The Weeknd, A$AP Rocky, Don Toliver, and Young Thug, he is constantly fueling the current and future sound of hip hop.

Metro went through hits like Ye’s “Father Stretch My Hands," Migos’ “Bad and Boujee," and his collaborations with 21 Savage, along with his many collaborations with Future as well. The crowd loved every part of it and it seemed like the perfect way to introduce Future onto the stage. After Metro’s set finished, there was an intermission from DJ TJ Banks. He quickly played a few Future hits to warm up the crowd.

It was only a matter of time as the lights dimmed, and the intro of DS2 classic “Stick Talk” started playing. The crowd started chanting lyric for lyric, and the energy was at its peak. He quickly transitioned to his last solo album, I NEVER LIKED YOU, with hits like “712PM” and “I’M DAT N***A." After getting a dose of high energy Future hits, he took it back to perform his collaborations like Rihanna’s “Loveeeeeee Song” and Ace Hood’s "Bugatti." These tracks were complimented with strong pyro and even mini fireworks set off behind him.

Future ran through his long discography of hits with solo tracks and with different collaborators. It’s almost as if the first set is to go through his “greatest hits” and make sure all the fans get to hear their favorite song. This part of the set ended with bangers like “Fuck Up Some Commas” and “March Madness.”

TJ Banks came back onto stage and again played through a list of Future classics. Tracks included “PUFFIN ON ZOOTIEZ," "Cinderalla," and “Red Leather."

The lights then dimmed once again, with it being completely dark and having thunderstorm noises. Metro Boomin came back onto the mic to hype up the crowd, and the epic introduction of “Superhero (Heroes & Villains)” started to play. This is by far one of Future and Metro Boomin’s best collaboration tracks, just from the energy it evokes from the crowd. It’s hard not to jump out of your seat when you hear the drop.

The two then performed together for the first time of the night, going through their lengthy collaborative history. This included hits from Future’s 2015 magnum opus Dirty Sprite 2, which featured a lot of Metro Boomin’s production. Tracks included “Thought It Was a Drought” and “I Serve the Base,” along with other tracks including “Wicked” and “Low Life."

The set was coming to an end, and that was the perfect opportunity for both artists to tie it back into their latest album. Immediately the two performed “Fried (She a Vibe),” which sounded really dynamic live, complemented with the pyro. It quickly transitioned into one of the biggest songs of the album, “Type Shit,” where the two ran down the catwalk and brought the energy to the extended floor platform.

Future and Metro Boomin then performed “Like That," “Mask Off," and lastly to close it out with “We Still Don’t Trust You." It was a fun melodic track that ended the show on a high note. It’s also a self-titled track from their last project and a personal favorite of mine.
