Over the weekend, history was made as San Francisco hosted one of the largest electronic concerts in recent years with over 25,000 attendees. Fred again.. and Skrillex hosted this historical night downtown at the Civic Center Plaza with much anticipation from both fanbases.

Fred again.. first teased that he was going to perform in an unannounced city after being inspired by his visit to a Dead & Company show at the Sphere in Las Vegas. Through Instagram posts, he mentioned that the visuals and music inspired him for his next show and that he was going to be performing at a historic “Grateful Dead venue”. It was later announced that he would be performing for three nights at the Frost Amphitheater. Not only did all three of those nights sell out, but it also left suspicion that he might be hosting another show in San Francisco as Reddit users and big fans looked at the public permits that were filed for the Civic Center Plaza to host an outdoor concert. It was later confirmed by Fred himself, and tickets were later announced.

Chaos ensued as tickets were released and immediately sold out within minutes, with resellers attempting to fluctuate the resell price of the tickets. Luckily, both of the artists blocked any ticket transfers through the Ticketmaster app, so all tickets that were purchased must be used by the original owner, which helped true fans get their chance to go.

Fred again.. recently performed as the special guest headliner at EDC Las Vegas prior to this event and had already drawn much hype regarding his setlist along with the announcement of his new album releasing soon.

The show was nothing like I’ve seen before, with a huge stage set up right in front of the Civic Center and tons of fans surrounding it. The backdrop made it very memorable, as you’re normally used to seeing a closed venue with a LED screen of visuals.

Once the show started, lines were wrapped around the block, with attendees all rushing to get in. As the sun was still out, Fred again.. and Skrillex went back to back on the CDJs, throwing down hits after hits and getting the crowd hyped. Memorable tracks include their collaboration with producer Four Tet on “Baby Again," Skrillex’s Cinema remix with Jeremih’s Oui, an unreleased remix of Frank Ocean’s "Lost," and a bunch of more unreleased material that the two have made together.

One highlight that had the crowd jumping from side to side was when the two brought out Anderson Paak to perform “Places to Be,” which is the new track from his collaboration with Fred again... The entire Civic Center Plaza turned into a huge dance party, with everyone jumping to the new track. Not only were attendees treated to a special guest, but Anderson Paak did not disappoint. He performed with so much energy, rapping on top of the CDJs while also jumping and hyping up the crowd. Fred again.. stopped the song and spun it again, with the crowd getting even more hyped.

This was a memorable night for not just electronic music lovers but also for the city of San Francisco. It’s rare to see two of the biggest DJs not only host a concert together but at a National Historic Landmark. This show was very similar to their headlining Coachella set in 2023, which left fans very impressed by the production of these two producers. As the night concluded at a hard stop at 10 p.m. due to San Francisco’s strict curfew time, the two DJs said their sincere thank yous and deep appreciation for all of the fans coming out, along with an excerpt of Mayor London Breed talking about the concert during a news coverage. The final song dropped and everyone went crazy dancing while also taking in a moment to appreciate how lucky we all were to witness this show.
