The highly talented and gifted singer,
Lennon Stella, made a stop in San Francisco a few nights back. She’s already on her way to selling out almost every show set out in front of her, both here and abroad. That’s quite an accomplishment for a 19 year old from Oshawa, Canada. But she didn’t begin her entertainment career just last summer. She began acting professionally seven years ago on the ABC hit show
Nashville, and it seems she picked up the singing bug during the show’s first years; when after performing The Lumineers’ song “Ho Hey” with her younger sister Maisy, it, and they, went viral.

She hasn’t looked back since. Lennon has taken that launching pad of a six year run on
Nashville and parlayed that into a full fledged career that has eclipsed many in the business at twice her age. And that singing bug probably showed up earlier in her life than stated above. Her parents are Brad and MaryLynne Stella of
The Stellas, a singer-songwriter duo. So you could say she was born to sing.

And her legions of adoring fans are quite happy about that. Friday night, they all showed up for her in San Francisco at the cool little theater on Mason St,
August Hall. It’s very close to the heart of Union Square, where food and fashion flow from one block to another. I hadn’t seen August Hall in a sold out state before, and so it was exciting to see it packed for this event. I admit that I haven’t followed Lennon’s music or career over these last few years, but apparently millions of teenage and twenty-something girls have.

I think at least half of all of her fans came to the show -- though I could be off by a few hundred thousand. Yet, when Lennon finished a song or started one of her biggest hits like “Bad” or “Polaroid,” the place erupted like the Ed Sullivan Theater when the Beatles played, and there were a few hundred thousand then (or maybe not). I found myself putting in my earplugs at that moment, awash in sound like a jet airliner taking off. It was crazy. And I know her fans adore her, since they could all be seen mouthing every word to every song all night long.

The openers, a band called
Valley, set a good pace for the night, even garnering a lot of applause and a few screams. But the night belonged to Lennon. And 18 songs might not have been enough for the crowd so Lennon had one trick up her sleeve. Real fans may have known about it ahead of time, but as she neared the end of the set, Lennon brought out her sister Maisy for one song. It brought the house down! They each took turns singing their parts on MGMT’s “Kids” for the audience, and when it was all over the screaming fans took over.

A few nights in the US
remain along with a few in Vancouver, Canada (first 3 nights are sold out). Then they’re off to Europe for what looks like a nearly sold out 6 weeks. Your best bet is to catch her opening for
The Chainsmokers when their tour comes around the US starting in late September. We hope to see them at the new Chase Center in S.F. on Nov. 29th. Get your tickets
here, and maybe we’ll see you there, too!
