Jonny Lang is one of the leading modern blues guitarists in the world and we were lucky enough to catch his show last night in Redwood City at the Fox Theatre in support of his new album, Signs(iTunes). The night started off with show opener, Zane Carney, who worked through a short set mixed with originals and covers, including a beautiful rendition of U2's "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For." Zane was previously part of Bono's Broadway show, "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark", where his older brother Reeve, played the lead role. Zane's been playing guitar since he was 9 years old, and it showed -- throughout his short set, Zane jumped through genres as diverse as jazz, reggae, and rock; and it was no wonder why Jonny added Zane to his backing band for this tour! Shortly after 9pm is when the man himself appeared on stage, Jonny Lang! We last caught Jonny here in the Bay Area when he was opening for Buddy Guy at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga last July and you can find our review of that show here.

As usual, Jonny's performance was absolutely stellar. The only criticism I'd have is that I wished he would have played longer! But I'd be saying the same thing if he had played for three hours! I just can't get enough of this guy's live show. The sheer talent Jonny has is just unbelievable and what completely blows me away each and every time I see him perform is how expressive his performance is. Words can't do justice in describing how emotive Jonny's vocals, guitar, and overall playing style is. It's clear that he puts 110% into each song as you can see in how he contorts his body to get as much as possible out of his guitar.

From songs such as "Rack 'Em Up", "Lie To Me", "Still Rainin'", and even Stevie Wonder's "Livin' for the City", Jonny pours out his soul into these songs, and in doing so, truly makes the audience feel each and every emotion conveyed in the lyrics.
Just watch his performance of "Still Rainin'" and you'll see and hear what I mean!
