As October comes to a close, so too does the
Shoreline Amphitheater concert calendar. And for the past 30 years, the season has closed with Neil and Pegi Young's all-acoustic
Bridge School Benefit.
But this year was different. Back in June, Neil and Pegi announced that the Bridge show wouldn't happen this year -- with no indication if it would *ever* reappear. So as I walked into Shoreline last night for what looks to be my last Shoreline concert this year, it felt a bit strange that I was walking in to see the
Zac Brown Band, and not the Bridge.

But my unease quickly melted away. And it started with the show opener,
Caroline Jones, who
Rolling Stone calls one of 10 new country artists you need to hear. Caroline played a relatively short 20 minute set to warm up the crowd, and she did just that.
By 7:45, Darrell Scott took over and saw various Zac Brown Band members begin to join his set, at which point, the full Zac Brown Band took over by 8:20pm. I had heard that tickets were still available for the show, but as I looked around, Shoreline was absolutely packed, and people were here to party.

Although I've heard of the Zac Brown Band, I'll admit I wasn't familiar with much of their material, but as the night went on, the biggest surprise was the sheer number of cover songs the band played. This was essentially a party band, and I was late to the party. Zac Brown is the Jimmy Buffett of country music.

Zac, surrounded by his 9-piece band, can play. Hands down. And as a fitting 'replacement' for the Bridge School Benefit this year, Zac acknowledged that $1 from each ticket sold was going towards his
Camp Southern Ground, a children's summer camp serving kids with disabilities across all socioeconomic backgrounds. It was then that I realized that even though there'd be no Bridge this year, the spirit of the show lived on, seemingly coincidentally, with the Zac Brown Band.
