Matthew Sweet returned to San Francisco last night with a near-capacity performance at
the Independent in support of his recent Kickstarter-funded album,
Tomorrow Forever (iTunes). Opening the night was long-time friend,
Tommy Keene, who also joined Matthew onstage during "I've Been Waiting"
(iTunes) towards the end of the night.

It's been a few years since we last caught up with Matthew -- you can find our interviews from
2012 and
2013 here -- and it was good to see him back out on the road in support of a new album. Honestly, I was surprised to hear that the band sounded so good last night. I'd even venture to say that their performance was better than the album versions of the material and especially the tracks off the new album. Maybe it was the energy in the room? Maybe they've had more practice since the new songs were 'put to tape', but they sounded great!
