As part of the 25th anniversary of San Francisco’s Noise Pop festival, LA-based, and Berkeley-born, Electric Guest kicked off their new tour at the sold out Independent last night with an albeit short, but energetic set.

The duo, fronted by Asa Taccone and featuring Matthew Compton on drums, were joined by two other musicians (guitarist/keyboardist & bassist) to fill out Electric Guest’s unique sound — a sound that I can only describe as part funky modern synth pop infused with Bee Gee’s era falsetto vocals and a sprinkling of hip-hop. If there’s a genre for this, please let us know in the comments below! The unique sound can also be linked back to Brian “Danger Mouse” Burton who was instrumental in convincing Asa to pursue music, and co-produced Electric Guest’s first album, Mondo (iTunes).

The band released their new second album Plural (iTunes) just last week and are embarking on a month-long swing of dates in the US before hitting Europe in April.
